Prologue
When I was busy studying philosophy in college, I was struck at how such profound, utterly profound thinkers, could write such dense, incredibly unappealing books. I discerned that the problem was one of structure in the way the works were presented: not narratives, they presented themselves in the same fashion as a novel, paragraph to paragraph, with each paragraph packed full of ever-more complex ideas that built on the previous complex ideas. So I thought to myself, "Self, these works are important, if not for the supposed truth they contain, for the journey that they take you on while you're devouring them. How can you make them more appealing to a broader audience?"Thus was born the "Philosophy Made Easier to Read" series. In it, the goal is to take hugely important philosophical works, such as the Problems of Philosophy (which is one of the greatest introductions to philosophy ever written), and present them in a fashion that could allow non-scholars the same level of access. With Problems of Philosophy, I've attempted to visually separate the ideas that Russell used to create his work, which, re-imagined, will read like a collection of profound ideas that allow for easy comprehension while contributing to an understanding of the whole. Taking smaller bites, you will hopefully discover improved digestion as well as healthier nutrition. -Damon
