Prologue
A very pretty five-foot tall Texan with a flair for the dramatic, Evangeline Warner is a writer of romance novels and the wife of an American military doctor stationed in Germany. Fearful that her abusive husband will kill her, she ends her marriage and flees to England to hide from him on the advice of a trusted friend. She escapes to the safety of a rented cottage on the peaceful estate of Carrington Castle in pastoral Shropshire County in England. What she didn’t know was that while she was still married to Dr. Gerald Warner, she was chosen by that same trusted friend to be the bride in an arranged marriage. Everything was prearranged, from the failure of her marriage, to her escape to England, to meeting Martin Carrington, to the surprise appearance of Gerald at the door of her cottage on the night of a full moon. Even Gerald’s grisly death outside of her cottage that night was part of the plan. Evangeline learns from the leader of an army of angels that Martin, the handsome and very likeable Englishman who works as a cop in Shrewsbury, is also a werewolf during every full moon. Promised perfect health and great wealth in exchange for their souls, werewolves are granted a thousand-year lifespan, as long as they work for Satan. Operating under a strict code of honor that says that only people deserving to die were to be killed, Martin and all the other werewolves believed that they were performing a noble service to their fellow man. Martin, along with the rest of the werewolves, was destined to be destroyed, unless Evangeline could convince him to renounce Satan and leave the werewolf pack. Given a sword and a message, Evangeline was sent on a mission into the realm of darkness and demons to tell the werewolves that their time was up – either leave the pack and stop being werewolves, or die and face a harsh judgment. However, determined to preserve his pack of werewolves, Satan orchestrated several attacks on Evangeline, using various people to do his bidding. Evangeline’s journey begins in Texas as a pampered, materialistic socialite with an attitude as big as her home state. After deciding to leave her husband, Evangeline learns the depth and breadth of her own inner strength, intelligence and courage. As she fights to be the perfect wife and warrior, she brings about the next generation of werewolf hunters. The journey continues with Martin and Evangeline’s son, Sir Garrett Carrington – a werewolf hunter who grew up to be sexy, humorous, sometimes irreverent, and nobody's fool, with an amazing story of his own.
