The complete war diaries of Australian WWII Private Frank Morris Wells, NX119119 (20 March 1922 - 24th May 1945). Killed In Action, Tarakan, Borneo (then Dutch East Indies). The diaries were kept in perpetuity by his brother, Mark Ernest Wells (1924-2009) until they were painstakingly transposed and self-published by Mark's daughter, Amanda Ellen Quick (nee Wells), and gifted as a hard-bound book to Mark on the occasion of his 80th birthday in 2004. The diaries contain the words, poems, music and pictures of Frank Wells' war days from August 1942 until the evening before he was killed next to Mark in 1945; with a preface written by Mark in 1998. Frank, an accomplished Australian musician, manages to fill our minds with his musings, sometimes melancholic, often exasperated; his orchestral scoring and his longing for home and love. The original hand-written diaries - tens of soft-bound military supplied notebooks - were gifted to the Australian War Museum, Canberra, Australia, for perpetuity. At the time of re-publishing the diaries through this publisher, the War Memorial had sadly still not added the diaries to its online, indexed and researchable war catalogue.
