The Permanent Collection Vol. I

This is the first in a series of catalogs on the permanent collection of the Whatcom Museum of History and Art, and like the first reopening exhibition catalog in 1968 -- "Arts of a Vanished Era" -- it deals exclusively with "the first people" or at least first so far as antedating the arrival of the white man to the area.In this explanatory pictorial catalog of the permanent ethnographic collection, the noted anthropologist Dr. Erna Gunther with the assistance of members of the museum staff, organized, described and photographed, all of the major kinds of North American native-made artifacts in the collection.
