Lucky Audax and the Twin

Joseph Tomasi’s debut novel is a literary road-trip that winds its way through a series of surprising, yet credible, adventures and fortunate encounters as the protagonist sets forth on a quest to find his enigmatic twin brother, with the aid of some memorable companions. The story is set in an imaginary continent, reminiscent of Europe in the 1930s, where the protagonist, Lucky Audax, a reserved and cautious accountant, lives a comfortable life dictated by duty and routine. However, things change quickly when he is forced to take the helm of the family’s accountancy firm and, more importantly, come to terms with a mindblowing confession, after his father’s death. This crucial event, with all its ramifications, leads our book-keeper on a trail of adventure, violence, fun, and personal growth and transformation. The story presents a rhythm that increases cleverly as the story moves inexorably towards the much-anticipated finale and yet, even in the early chapters, it moves along nicely. The author provides the reader with just the necessary information, never too much, adding the essential wit and comic relief when required, amplifying the tension when needed and, in doing so, manages to leave readers with the odd impression that the book was written just for themselves, enticing them to read on (and secretly hope for a sequel).
