Prologue
This handbook is a guide to help our veterans orient themselves to a new way of thinking about MTBI, this life-changing event that has affected over 300,000 military service personnel and is being called the signature injury of the current war. The book provides insight into the symptoms of MTBI and suggestions for treatment to expedite the healing process. Most importantly, this book inspires hope to the veterans that they will get better, they will learn to compensate and discover their own resiliency and resourcefulness. We missed it when our injured Vietnam Vets returned home because we didn't understand what Traumatic Brain Injury and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder were. Now that we are more informed, we intend to spread the word that there is Hope for recovery. Each time this book is sold, it helps a wounded soldier, their family and friends and the net proceeds go to the non-profit organization, the Brain Injury Hope Foundation based in Boulder, CO. Their mission is to create a greater awareness of this serious disorder and to help provide financial assistance and inspiration to those who have experienced Mild Traumatic Brain Injury
