Monk-Son of Kunlun (Khalduni Wars #1)

The peace of the mountain town of Kunlun is shattered when it is invaded by the forces of a general from the east. Kai, the orphaned foster-son of the monks of Kunlun, eludes capture thanks to the intervention of the wandering warrior known as Musashi. Shortly after their escape, the two men cross paths with a winged giant called Krell and a warrior woman from the west named Brynja, who agree to aid Kai in his quest to free his people. Together they venture into the resplendent Kingdom of Xiang-Lan to request the help the Kunlun people require, only to find that it too is under attack from a murderous horde of barbarians from the south. Kai and his friends offer to help fight off the murderous invaders in the hopes that in return Xiang-Lan will aid the Kunlun people. Kai however begins to suspect that the events unfolding around them may very well be part of the great destiny that his foster fathers predicted for him, a destiny that could instead turn out to be a dark fate, for himself and everyone else in the Kingdom.
