Overview: Ahmed Mâhir Efendi (1860-1922), Osmanlı’nın son dönemi ve Cumhuriyet'in ilk yıllarında yaşamış, âlim, mutasavvıf, şair ve siyasetçi vasıflarına sahip çok yönlü bir şahsiyettir. İlimde mahir, hitabette mahir, kıraatte mahir diye vasfedilen, hatta Meclis-i Mebûsan’da hemşerisi İsmail Mâhir Efendi ile kıyaslanarak siyasette de mahir olduğu belirtilen Ahmed Mâhir Efendi, Osmanlı Devleti’nin ilmî ve kültürel açıdan önemli bir vilayeti olan Kastamonu’da doğmuş, pek çok âlim ve mutasavvıfın yetiştiği bu şehirde tahsilini tamamlamıştır. Tefsir, hadis, fıkıh ve kıraat gibi ilimlere vâkıf olan Ahmed Mâhir Efendi, Kastamonu medreselerinde müderrislik yapmış, şeyhu’l-kurrâ ünvanıyla kurra hafızlar yetiştirmiş, İstanbul’da Dârulfünûn ve Medresetü’l-Vâizîn’de müderrislik yapmış, tefsir ve kelam dersleri vermiştir. O, edebiyat alanında da seçkin bir şahsiyettir ve bunu İbn Atâullah el-İskenderî’nin şiirle nesir arası bir tarzda kaleme alınmış olan el-Hikemü’l-Atâiyye isimli eserine yazdığı şerhte göstermiştir. Bunun dışında tefsiri ve pek çok şiiri de bulunmaktadır.Bu eser, Ahmed Mâhir Efendi'nin hayatı, eserleri hakkında dönemin gazeteleri, arşiv belgeleri ve meclis zabıtlarından da yararlanılarak hazırlanan tekmil bir incelemenin yanında, 1900 yılında yayımlanan Hutbe Mecmuası'nı da bir bütün halinde okurlarımıza sunmaktadır. Finished it in a couple of days. The writing style is very engaging. It’s easy to follow but still has a lot of depth. Would probably read it again at some point.

Really enjoyed this one. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.
