Overview: Los textos que conocemos hoy como poesía náhuatl se deben en gran medida al trabajo invaluable de Miguel León-Portilla, quien ha dedicado toda una vida al estudio de la cultura náhuatl desde las más diversas perspectivas. La poesía ha sido uno de los centros de su interés, y varios libros suyos están dedicados a ella. A lo largo de los años, se ha enfrentado reiteradamente a los mismos textos, y ha decidido siempre traducirlos de nuevo antes que ir a una versión suya previa, ya que prefiere aceptar el reto del original cada vez. Para llegar a la presente compilación de las traducciones de León-Portilla, Coral Bracho y Marcelo Uribe, en colaboración con él, han buscado las mejores versiones de los más representativos y mejores textos, los han cotejado entre sí y los han armado, echando mano a veces de fragmentos de distintas traducciones. La mayor parte de los textos que forman esta antología han sido construidos en español por él, pero en cierta forma también en náhuatl, en la medida en que los ha extraído de un corpus que no siempre los distingue como textos independientes y en el cual, al menos en su expresión gráfica, no existe la noción de verso. Así, no sólo la versificación en español es suya, sino también en náhuatl, y está basada en las particularidades sonoras y estructurales de esa lengua. El propósito de este libro, además de presentar los textos en su lengua original, es ofrecer una idea aproximada de la sensibilidad poética que per-meaba la mirada de los nahuas, en los momentos literarios más lúcidos de las traducciones de Miguel León-Portilla, la persona que —sin duda— más se ha acercado, y desde la más honda sabiduría y la sensibilidad e inteligencia más finas, a las profundidades del mundo náhuatl.

Miguel León-Portilla writes contemporary fiction and has always been fascinated by character-driven stories. Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. I got really invested in the main character's journey. Everything just clicked for me. Will be looking for more from this author.
