The texts were written by Jaanus Plaat, a religion researcher. An articles about the icons of the Old Believers was written by Mari-Liis Paaver, a specialist in the Estonian Old Believer icon tradition. This book offers unique material: in addition to exterior views of Old Believer sacral buildings, it presents, for the first time, all the iconostases of the prayer houses in Estonia, as well as works by the world-famous icon painter Gavriil Frolov and his Raja icon painting school. The authors present an overview of the history of Old Believers and their icons in Estonia, and separate subsections give an overview of the history of the congregations and prayer houses.
