Bu kitap Umberto Eco’nunki gibi “ne oluyor/ what is going on?” sorusuna verilen akademik/bilimsel cevapları ele alıp irdelemek ve alternatif yanıtlar sunmak için tasarlandı.İnsan tarihi aynı zamanda iletişim tarihidir, çünkü iletişim fiziksel ve sosyal varlığını sürdürmek isteyen kendisi ve dışıyla üretim ilişkisinde bulunan insanla başlar. İletişim ilişkinin doğasına ve kullanılan araçlara göre çeşitli biçimler alır. Bu biçimlerden biri de kitle iletişimi olarak isimlendirilen yönetimsel iletişimdir. Bu iletişimle eski imparatorluklardan beri sözden, yazıdan ve görüntüden geçerek kitlelerin bilinçlerinin biçimlendirilmesine ve insanların yönetilmesine önemli katkılarda bulunulmaktadır. Günümüzde kitle iletişimi modern teknolojik araçlarla aracılanmış tek yönlü akışı olan yönetimsel iletişim türü içinde yer alır. Yönetimsel iletişim insanların örgütlü yapılarda veya kişiler arası örgütsüz ilişkiler sırasında yürüttüğü amaçlı girişimi anlatır. Aslında her iletişim yönetimseldir. Fakat kitle iletişimi tek yönlü bir karaktere sahiptir.Yönetimsel iletişim insanların birlikte yaşamasıyla biçimlenen toplum hayatıyla birlikte oluşmuş ve gelişmiştir. İlk insanla, sözsüz işaretler, sinyaller ve sesli uyaranlar iletişimin (dolayısıyla yönetmenin, yönlendirmenin, amaç gerçekleştirmenin) dili olarak başlamıştır. Ardından konuşma gelişmiş ve sözlü geleneğin evrimi gelmiştir. Sözlü gelenek tarih boyu insanla kalmıştır: M.Ö. 3500 yıllarında yazının kullanılmaya başlamasıyla söze, yazıyla kayıt ve sembolsel ifade eklenmiştir. Yazının gelişmesi ve günlük yaşamın her alanında kullanılması yanında, sözsellik toplumsal yaşam ilişkilerinin önde gelen parçası olarak devam etmiştir. Matbaanın eklenmesi ve elektronikleşmesiyle bu egemenlik kapitalin baskınlığındaki ekonomik ve siyasal yapıların özgürlüklerinin ifadesi biçimine dönüşmüştür. 20. yüzyılda yeni kitle iletişim araçları gelişmiş; bu araçlar kitle üretiminin gereksinimi olan tüketim pazarı ve bilinç yönetimini karşılama sistemi içine bütünleşmiştir. Günümüzde kitle iletişim araçlarının örgütlenişi ve faaliyetleri hem ekonomik çıkar hem de reklam ve ideolojik pazarlama biçiminde devam etmektedir.21. yüzyılda, iletişim alanı öncesinden çok daha fazla önem kazanmıştır. Teknolojik üretimle desteklenen yeni ulusal ve uluslar arası koşulların en ciddi sonuçları özellikle Türkiye gibi ülkelerde önemli değişimler, dönüşümler ve düzenlemelere neden olmuş; yeni yapılanmalar, anlayış ve ilişki biçimleri türemiştir. Kitle iletişim alanı daha karmaşık ve anlaşılması güç bir karakter kazanmıştır. Bu değişmelerle birlikte kitle kuram ve araştırmalarına yeniden bir bakış gereği doğmuştur. Kitap bu gereksinimi karşılamak için tasarlanmıştır.Kitle iletişimi kuram ve araştırmaları hakkında gerekli bilgiyi edinme iletişim konusunu ve bu konuyla gelen sorunları gereğince anlamanın ön koşuludur. En azından iki anlamda ön koşuldur. Birincisi, kitle iletişimini anlamak için önce hem tarihsel gelişimine bakmak hem de şimdiye kadar yapılmış önemli incelemeler ve bunların temelinde yatan kuramsal çerçevelerin bilinmesi gerekir. İkincisi, kitle iletişimini anlamak ve anlamlandırmak için, iletişimi kuram denilen açıklayıcı ve sistemli bir bilimsel konuma yerleştirmek ve bunun için de sadece varsayımlar silsilesiyle çalışmak değil, varsayımları test etmek veya test edilenler ışığında irdelemek, dolayısıyla araştırma yapmak gerekir. Bu nedenle kitapta kuram kitle iletişimi tarihi ve araştırmalarıyla birlikte ele alındı.Kitle iletişim tarihi çoğunlukla teknolojik ürünlerin gelişim tarihi olarak sunulur. I was pleasantly surprised. I got really invested in the main character's journey. Everything just clicked for me. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.
