Overview: Jatuh bangunnya sebuah rezim adalah soal biasa. Namun, terjerembabnya demokrasi di Mesir merupakan ”set back” yang tak terperikan. Negeri penginspirasi Arab Spring ini sekarang justru memasuki ”musim panas” yang berkepanjangan.Penulis epilog buku ini, Zuhairi Misrawi, dengan gamblang berhasil mengidentifikasi tiga tantangan besar dalam membangun demokrasi di negeri para firaun, yakni sistem dan pemimpin yang otoriter, invertensi militer dalam politik praktis dan kuatnya kalangan Islamis. Namun, sayangnya, Zuhairi ternyata tidak mampu memprediksi masa depan demokrasi Mesir. Ia seolah angkat tangan walaupun dengan jelas ia menamai subbab tulisannya: Masa Depan Demokrasi.Memang, Mesir sedang sakit dan tidak kunjung sembuh. Pemilik peradaban tinggi pada masa lalu ini tengah memasuki satu lorong kegelapan ke lorong sempit lainnya. Mesir terus limbung, tidak memiliki arah tujuan yang jelas atau terus dalam posisi tarik-menarik beberapa kelompok kuat. Karena itu, tak banyak yang bisa berkomentar ke arah mana negeri ini akan berjalan. Mesir seolah lagi asyik membuang-buang waktu secara percuma dan membiarkan dirinya dalam kondisi ketertinggalan. Sayang sekali.Jatuhnya presiden legendaris, Hosni Mubarak, dua tahun silam, benar-benar tidak dimaknai dengan baik oleh penguasa setelahnya. Tampuk kekuasaan yang sempat bertakhta selama 30 tahun dengan kekuatan ”besi” baru bisa tersungkur oleh buldoser revolusi yang digerakkan dari satu titik, Maidan Tahrir (Tahrir Square), di tengah kota Kairo. Diperlukan jutaan rakyat yang bergerak gegap gempita dalam teriakan yang sama dengan bendera yang terus dikibarkan untuk merangsek pemimpin yang dianggap lalim. Revolusi Januari 2011 adalah gerakan anak muda dan mahasiswa yang melek teknologi informasi dan media yang mulai mewabah tahun 2000-an. Bahkan, untuk mencapai titik keberhasilan, diperlukan ratusan orang mati syahid dan ribuan lainnya terluka menjadi tumbal kebebasan.Sayangnya, ketika musim semi (spring) telah datang, tidak tampak kehidupan manusia yang lebih baik. Keindahan yang harus direngkuh dengan susah telah mubazir. Alih-alih belajar dari para pendahulunya, presiden hasil revolusi besar justru kembali mengulangi kesalahan yang sama. Bukannya membangun kebersamaan, malah menjadikan primordialisme sebagai panglimanya. Yang paling demokrasi adalah keluarnya Dekret Presiden (22/11/12) yang menyatakan bahwa semua keputusan dan ketentuan hukum yang ia keluarkan tak dapat dibatalkan. Itulah mengapa, akhirnya, kekuasaannya hanya seumur jagung. Muhammad Mursi tersungkur oleh gerakan Maidan Tahrir. Lalu Mesir kembali ke titik nol lagi.Hegemoni militerUniknya, pada saat-saat Mesir akan kembali ke titik nadir, pihak militer selalu berhasil masuk dan membonceng di belakang kendaraan yang didorong-dorong oleh rakyat, khususnya kaum muda. Ketika Hosni Mubarak hendak diturunkan akibat kelalimannya, militer ikut numpang. Seolah berbaur dengan kekuatan rakyat, militer sebenarnya hanya ingin mempertahankan hegemoni dan tak ingin bisnis besarnya dihabisi oleh putra Hosni Mubarak yang digadang-gadang menggantikannya.Sama juga, ketika rakyat jengah terhadap Mursi yang terlalu mewarnai pemerintahan dengan Ikhwanul Muslimin dan tidak menepati janji-janji pemilu, militer kembali ambil peran. Di kala tendangan bebas sedang dilepas di Maidan Tahrir, militer langsung mengambil inisiatif untuk mengambil paksa sang penjaga gawang, Muhamamd Mursi, lalu memenjarakannya. Militer kembali menjadi penguasa.Anehnya, dan mungkin ini hanya terjadi di Mesir, gerakan tamarrod anti-Mursi tidak memiliki konsep yang jelas, kecuali menurunkan sang presiden, sehingga dengan mudah disusupi militer. Lagi-lagi, kekuasaan dan bisnis menjadi target utama kekuatan bersenjata di Mesir. Inilah yang kemudian menyebabkan negeri para firaun tersebut kembali menjadi tidak jelas juntrungannya. Sebagian rakyat kini kembali turun ke Maidan Tahrir untuk membela presiden yang telah terpilih secara demokratis. Tiap hari, yel-yel antimiliter kembali memenuhi langit kota. Pariwisata yang menjadi andalan Mesir mulai lumpuh, kekurangan pangan menjadi pengalaman keseharian, instabilitas politik bukan lagi wacana, dan masa depan negeri menjadi absurd.
