Overview: This edition is annotated, with additional information about the original languages and culture of the Bible, an overview of the types of modern English Bible translations, and some background on Luther's writing. There is a convenient, active table of contents, and this work has been formatted for your Kindle. Which is the best Bible translation?Before you can answer that question, it's important to understand the differences between the different types of English Bible translations. Some translations attempt to use a literal, word-for-word approach. While others look for an equivalent, thought-for-though translation from the original languages, recognizing that there's not always a clean, single word to capture the plain meaning of the text. Martin Luther struggled finding an exact word-for-word match when translating the Bible into his native German. At times, there wasn't a single word in his native language which would fully describe the intent of the author of the Biblical text. As a result, we found himself needing to add words to explain the concepts. This practice drew a great deal of criticism from the Catholic Church who believed the Bible should only be written in Latin! Luther was certainly going against the grain, and his "An Open Letter on Translating" was a defense of his methods in response to his critics. These conversations and criticisms continue today with our modern English Bible translations. The "Introduction to Modern Bible Translations" describes the types of translations we have today, and lays out a framework that brings contemporary relevance and understanding to Luther's letter from nearly 500 years ago! Martin Luther is a writer and avid reader based in the Pacific Northwest. Before pursuing writing full-time, they spent over a decade working in education. Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. A solid 5/5 for me.

Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. I got really invested in the main character's journey. Everything just clicked for me. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.

Glad someone recommended this to me. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. Would probably read it again at some point.

Good, but not quite perfect. Writing is good, just wish there was a bit more depth in certain parts. Still kept my attention though. Still a good book.
