Overview: फास्टर फेणे डिटेक्टटिव्हज्येष्ठ साहित्यिक भा. रा. भागवत यांच्या लेखणीतून साकारलेला साहस वीर फास्टर फेणे यांची अजून एक साहस कथा‘ डिटेक्टिव्ह मुलगा पाहिजे ! ’ ते शीर्षक पाहिल्याबरोबर बनेश ऊर्फ फास्टर फेणेने ‘ ट्टॉक् ’ केले आणि तो फटफटीच्या वेगाने जाहिरात वाचू लागला : ‘ धाडसाची व डिटेक्टिव्ह कामाची हौस असलेला १२ ते १५ वयाचा हुशार मुलगा पाहिजे. सुटीपुरते एक महिन्याचे काम. संरक्षणाची शक्य तेवढी काळजी घेतली जाईल आणि वकूब पाहूनच काम दिले जाईल. तरीपण पालकांची परवानगी अत्यावश्यक ! ताबडतोब लिहा !- ’ कालच विद्याभवनला सुटी लागली होती आणि फुरसुंगीला सायकल वळण्यापूर्वी बन्या कसबा पेठेतल्या आपल्या मामांकडे डोकावला होता. त्यापूर्वी त्याचे नि त्याचा वसतिगृहातला जोडीदार सुभाष देसाई याचे जे बोलणे झाले त्यातच सुटीत काहीतरी कमाई करण्याची आपली मनीषा त्याने जाहीर केली होती. अमेरिकेतली मुले सुटीत काम करून पैसे मिळवतात असे त्यांना सरांनीच सांगितले होते. ‘ पैशाशिवाय येत्या नाताळात मलायामध्ये भरणाऱ्या जांबोरीला मला कसं जाता येणार ? ’ फा.फे म्हणाला होता. ‘ आधीच मुलांना निम्मे दर आणि त्यात बालवीरांना खास सवलत म्हणजे अवघ्या पावपट पैशांत मलाया ! असं म्हणतात की, जन्माला यावं नि मलाया बघावा ! ’ ‘ अर्थात ! आधी कसा बघणार ? ’ सुभाषने फुसकुली सोडली होती. ‘ आणि तसं म्हटलं तरी ब्रह्मदेशही बघावा झालंच तर, जावा-सुमात्रा, फिलिपिन्स, बोर्निओ.... ’ ‘ चेष्टा करू नकोस. मलेशियाचे पंतप्रधान परवा आले होते तेच सांगत होते. डॉ. राम गुलाम- ’ ‘ ते मॉरिशसचे ! गुळाचा देश ना तो, तेव्हा मध्येच चिकटला तुझ्या जिभेला. मलेशियाचे पंतप्रधान आहेत टुंकू अबदुर रहमान. ’ फास्टर फेणेची जीभ आता पुन्हा टाळ्याला चिकटली. ‘ ट्टॉक् ! ’ तो म्हणाला. ‘ टुंकूच म्हणायचं होतं मला !- तर इतक्या थोड्या पैशांतली ट्रिप असूनही बाबा माझ्याजवळ पैसे नाहीत म्हणतात, म्हणे-तुला जायचं असेल तर मिळव अन् जा ! मी तो चॅलेंज घेतला अन् म्हणालो या सुटीत मिळवीन ! ’ ‘ तूच कोण मिळवणार रे ? मीपण मिळवीन. बाबांच्या कारखान्यात एक महिना उमेदवारी करतो उद्यापासून ’, अशी सुभाषनेही घोषणा केली होती. खरे म्हणजे सुभाषचे वडील बडे कारखानदार होते. त्याला या कमाई-बिमाईच्या फंदात पडण्याची काहीच गरज नव्हती आणि तसं म्हटलं तर भाई फेण्यांनापण काही कमी नव्हते. यंदा त्यांना उसाचे पीक अमाप आले नाही हे खरे; तरी त्या मुसुंबीचा बाग बरा फळला होता; पण भाई म्हणजे फार आगळे पालक होते. मुलाच्या धाडसी वृत्तीला खो घालण्याऐवजी ती डिवचीत बसायला त्यांना आवडे. अर्थात पूर्वी बन्या ट्रिपला गेला असता सगळ्यांची नजर चुकवून तेजपूरला पळाला अन् मग ट्रक-विमान करीत पॅराशूटमधून नेफा आघाडीवर टपकला तेव्हा त्यांनाही ते जरा जास्तीच वाटले होते. डोळ्याला डोळा लागला नव्हता आणि बन्याच्या आईचे तर डोळ्यातले पाणी खळले नव्हते. असल्या संकटात उडी घेणार नाही अशी त्याच्याकडून त्यांनी त्यांच्या वेळी म्हणजे महिनाभराने बन्या पुन्हा घरी आला तेव्हा शपथ घ्यायला लावली होती आणि तेव्हापासून बन्या आपण होऊन संकटात उडी-बिडी घेत नसे; पण तो जाई तिथे संकटच त्याचा वास घेत जाई अन् त्याच्यावर झेप टाकी, याला तो तरी काय करणार होता ? मे महिन्यात काम करून कमाई करण्याचे दोघाही मित्रांचे काल ठरले आणि आज नेमकी ‘ सकाळ ’ मध्ये ही जाहिरात झळकली. फास्टर फेणेने ‘ ट्टॉक् ’ केले यात नवल नाही. त्याने झर्रकन पुन्हा जाहिरातीकडे पाहिले-‘ नाव-पत्ता ’ ? छे ! नावाचा पत्ता नव्हता. फोनदेखील नव्हता. होता फक्त बॉक्स नंबर अमुक तमुक... !
