Overview: Mittelhochdeutsch ist keine Fremdsprache! Dennoch wird es von vielen Erstsemestern als fremde Sprache erfahren, zumal Mittelhochdeutsch im schulischen Unterricht kaum noch ernsthaft thematisiert wird. Hier setzt das vorliegende Lehrwerk an.Es handelt sich um eine Einführung in das Mittelhochdeutsche unter Nutzung fremdsprachendidaktischer Methoden und Erkenntnisse, wobei neben der Vermittlung der mittelhochdeutschen Grammatik eine breitere Textkenntnis und einige vertiefende Einblicke in die deutsche bzw. europäische Kultur des Mittelalters ermöglicht werden. Das Erlernen der Grammatik steht zwar im Mittelpunkt, ist aber nicht um seiner selbst willen gestaltet, sondern wird als Voraussetzung für eine sichere Verstehens- und Übersetzungskompetenz angesehen. Dies bedeutet einerseits einen Verzicht auf Einiges, was traditionell im Grammatikunterricht des Mittelhochdeutschen erlernt wird, erlaubt aber andererseits eine bessere Einsicht in die Vielfalt grammatischer Verwendungen in mittelhochdeutschen Texten. Die Einführung nimmt zudem Abschied von einer Ganztextvermittlung im Rahmen von universitären Mittelhochdeutsch-Einführungen und stellt stattdessen die Vielgestaltigkeit mittelhochdeutscher Textlichkeit und Materialität in den Vordergrund.Zusätzlich werden durch Übungsaufgaben Möglichkeiten angeboten, die in den einzelnen Kapiteln erworbenen Fähigkeiten und Fertigkeiten zu vertiefen und einzuüben.An den Kapitelteil schließt sich die ‚Grammatik in Tabellen, Listen und Übersichten‘ an, auf die in den Kapiteln verwiesen wird. Es folgt ein mittelhochdeutscher Grundwortschatz, der auf der Grundlage eines Korpus von 102 mittelhochdeutschen Handschriften erstellt wurde.Neugier und Interesse für das Fach Mediävistik in seinen zahlreichen Facetten aufrechtzuerhalten und zu fördern und die Scheu vor der als fremd empfundenen Sprache und Schrift zu nehmen, sind die erhofften Ziele.

Glad someone recommended this to me. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. Will be looking for more from this author.
