Overview: Een goede wetenschappelijke tekst schrijven is geen gemakkelijke opgave. De academische praktijk is immers complex: elke opleiding stelt andere eisen aan teksten en het schrijfproces verloopt zelden zoals je van tevoren had bedacht. Daarnaast vraagt het onderzoek, dat de basis vormt van de te schrijven tekst, de nodige aandacht. Handboek academisch schrijven geeft inzicht in de mechanismen van academisch denken, academisch schrijven en academische teksten, zodat universitaire studenten de schrijfopdrachten tijdens hun opleiding succesvol kunnen uitvoeren. De auteur bespreekt de aanpak van kleine schrijfopdrachten (papers en essays) en grote schrijfopdrachten (bachelor- en masterscripties). Hierdoor is dit handboek tijdens de hele studie bruikbaar. Het boek is ingedeeld in vier delen, naar de fasen van het schrijfproces: oriënteren op de opdracht, een plan maken, het onderzoek uitvoeren en het schrijven zelf. De auteur beschrijft in elke fase de stappen die moeten worden gezet om tot een goed eindproduct te komen. Op de bijbehorende website zijn aanvullende theorie, extra voorbeelden en formulieren voor de uitwerking van de verschillende stappen te vinden. Ook staan er verwijzingen naar handige websites en boeken. De stappenplannen, die op verschillende schrijfopdrachten toepasbaar zijn, en de voorbeelden uit vele wetenschappelijke disciplines maken Handboek academisch schrijven een leerzaam en toegankelijk boek dat geschikt is voor alle universitaire studenten. Joy de Jong is coördinator van het Academisch Schrijfcentrum Nijmegen (ASN) van de Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen en is gepromoveerd op onderzoek naar scriptiegesprekken. Al ruim twintig jaar verzorgt ze cursussen en workshops op het gebied van academisch schrijven en het begeleiden ervan. Ze is medeoprichter van het landelijke Netwerk Academische Communicatieve Vaardigheden.

Took me a few chapters to get into it, but it was worth it. I liked the main character, though some of the side plots were just okay. Still a good book.
