Overview: Martin Farquhar Tupper (1810-1889) was an English writer, poet, and the author of Proverbial Philosophy. In 1837 appeared his first series of Proverbial Philosophy, a long series of didactic moralisings. This work, which spread its author's name far and wide, was met at first with moderate success in England, while in the United States it was almost a total failure. In 1845 Tupper was elected a fellow of the Royal Society. He received the gold medal for science and literature from the King of Prussia. His works include: A Modern Pyramid to Commemorate a Septuagint of Worthies (1839), An Author's Mind (1841), The Crock of Gold: A Rural Novel (1844), Heart: A Social Novel (1845), Probabilities: An Aid to Faith (1847) and The Twins: A Domestic Novel (1851).

Glad someone recommended this to me. I got really invested in the main character's journey. Everything just clicked for me. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.

It was just alright. It felt a bit repetitive in the middle. Could have been shorter. Just right down the middle.

Good, but not quite perfect. It held my attention, even if a few things were a little predictable. Still a good book.

Took me a few chapters to get into it, but it was worth it. I liked the main character, though some of the side plots were just okay. Still a good book.

Not bad, but not my favorite. It felt a bit repetitive in the middle. Could have been shorter. A generous 3 stars.

A solid read. Writing is good, just wish there was a bit more depth in certain parts. Still kept my attention though. I'd probably recommend it to a friend.
