Overview: Der Begriff der Planetarität ist in den letzten Jahren immer wichtiger geworden, um zu greifen, wie Menschen heute mit ihrem Gastplaneten interagieren und auf ihm präsent sind. Extraktivismus, Klimawandel und menschliche Landnutzungsmuster konstituieren eine nicht mehr nur ökologische, sondern geologische Transformation des Erdsystems: sie schließen sich kurz mit der Kondition des Planeten und verändern sie. Zugleich ermöglichen erdumspannende Systeme der Datenaggregation und Berechnung es Forschenden aus Natur- und Geisteswissenschaften, diese Veränderungen in Echtzeit zu verfolgen und damit Planetarität auf die (mentale) Landkarte zu setzen. Planeten denken unternimmt eine doppelte Intervention in diesen neuen Diskurs: Erstens stellt das Buch Planetarität in einen astrobiologischen Kontext. Damit behebt es einen spürbaren Mangel an theoretischer Fundierung und verlagert den Fokus von einem räumlichen zu einem zeitlichen Verständnis von Planeten als sich ständig wandelnden Entitäten. Dabei hat sich die Eigenzeit der Erde heute radikal beschleunigt. Planeten denken fokussiert daher zweitens auf das Ineinander von planetarischer und biographischer Zeit, das für dieses Zeitalter der technologischen und wissenschaftlichen Akzeleration so paradigmatisch ist wie seine ethischen und politischen Implikationen unbegriffen. I have mixed feelings about this one. It had some good moments, but the overall plot felt a bit disjointed in the second half. Might work better for someone else, just wasn't completely for me.
