Overview: Våldet och fattigdomen hade präglat Juan Rulfo i den mexikanska by där han växte upp. Han uppmärksammades som författare i Mexico City redan med debuten och novellsamlingen Slätten i lågor. Denna bok ges nu ut för första gången i Sverige, översatt av Yvonne Blank. Där ingår även 13 andra berättelser av Juan Rulfo.Juan Rulfo föddes 1917 i en liten by på den mexikanska landsbygden. Det var fattigt, vilket påverkade hans liv och författarskap. Hans far dog i det våldsamma inbördeskriget (Cristerosupproret) i Mexiko på 20-talet när Juan var sex år. När hans mor dog fyra år senare placerades han på ett barnhem. Som ung vuxen flyttade han till Mexico City och universitetet och började skriva, både prosa och filmmanus. Han gav ut den sensationella romanen Pedro Páramo. Samtidigt blev han en etablerad fotograf som skildrade sin uppväxtmiljö på den fattiga landsbygden. 1986 dog han 71 år gammal.Juan Rulfo debuterade med novellsamlingen Slätten i lågor, 1953. Really enjoyed this one. I got really invested in the main character's journey. Everything just clicked for me. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.

Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. I loved how the story unfolded. It kept me guessing without being too confusing. Will be looking for more from this author.

Not bad, but not my favorite. It had some good moments, but the overall plot felt a bit disjointed in the second half. A generous 3 stars.
