Overview: Per què reben la denominació de «reial» entitats que promouen el negacionisme de la unitat de la segona llengua més parlada a l’Estat? Per què el Ministeri de Cultura separa l’edició de llibres en «català» i en «valencià»? Des de Madrid i, ara també, des del Govern valencià presidit per Carlos Mazón amb suport dels ultradretans de Vox, promouen la unitat cultural amb la hispanidad i alhora el trencament de l’idioma compartit amb catalans, valencians, baleàrics i més grups. Potser és una casualitat? No ho sembla. Les llengües també són banderes, símbols. A l'Europa occidental, i al Regne d’Espanya, els conflictes polítics es canalitzen bàsicament per mitjà de lluites culturals. Aquest llibre analitza el conflicte lingüístic valencià tenint en compte una perspectiva comparada i des de diversos vessants: la construcció del castellà com a llengua hegemònica, l’oposició a Joan Fuster i al valencianisme durant el franquisme, la retòrica legitimadora de l’himne regional i el desenvolupament del secessionisme idiomàtic, amb atenció especial a l’oposició de l’ús del valencià i al discurs justificador de la castellanització. L’objectiu és mostrar que els grups poderosos tracten de mantenir el català en una posició de subordinació respecte del castellà. Malgrat això, molts a casa nostra no veuen la dominació simbòlica i fins i tot en participen. Contra la llengua dels valencians. Una batalla per la cultura és un assaig escrit de manera amena i fins i tot irònica, adreçat a tota mena de lectors interessats, no només valencians.Vicent Flor (València, 1971) és llicenciat en Ciències Polítiques i en Antropologia Social i Cultural i doctor en Sociologia. Gestor cultural i conservador del MuVIM, exercí durant més de quinze cursos de professor de Sociologia de la Universitat de València i de 2015 a 2024 de director de la Institució Alfons el Magnànim. Ha publicat en Afers, a més de capítols de llibres, articles i ressenyes, els llibres Noves glòries a Espanya. Anticatalanisme i identitat valenciana (2022, 2a edició), sobre el regionalisme anticatalanista valencià; Societat anònima. I was pleasantly surprised. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. Glad I picked this up.
