Overview: Gegenstand der Arbeit ist die Untersuchung weiblicher Entwicklungsprozesse im englischen Roman des 19. Jahrhunderts. Untersucht werden Jane Austens 'Mansfield Park', Elizabeth Gaskells 'North & South' und George Eliots 'Middlemarch'. Ausgangspunkt für die Analyse ist der Bildungsroman, dessen Definition sich lange ausschließlich an männlichen Beispielen dieser Gattung orientierte. Diese Untersuchung zeigt, wie sich der weibliche vom männlichen Bildungsroman unterscheidet. An Fanny Price, Margaret Hale und Dorothea Brooke wird einerseits deutlich, wie die Protagonistinnen durch gesellschaftliche Konventionen an der Umsetzung ihrer Ideale in die Wirklichkeit gehindert werden. Andererseits tragen die drei Protagonistinnen durch ihre Ideale zu der Sensibilisierung für die Betrachtung weiblicher Entwicklungsprozesse bei.

Finished it in a couple of days. The writing style is very engaging. It’s easy to follow but still has a lot of depth. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.

Not bad, but not my favorite. Some parts were interesting, while others were a bit of a slog to get through. It's fine if you have nothing else to read.

Such a great read. I got really invested in the main character's journey. Everything just clicked for me. A solid 5/5 for me.
