Book 2: Matters of Survival: Maggie came to America for a better life. Her parents had died along the way and she arrived penniless and without a home--and no one to turn to. She is all alone and has no one to turn to in her hour of need. Found by a police officer days before she would surely have died, her life is completely turned around with the help of Miss Helen at her school for Mail Order Brides. She worries about fitting in and struggles with certain American habits pertaining to bonnets and dresses, but these are small things in the scope of life. Andrew had not counted on the loneliness that would beset him. He longed for someone to share his life and work side by side with him and give him children. There were no women locally so he decided to place an ad for a mail order bride. This is a story of survival and the tests that come in life not only from relationships but mother nature herself. Can Maggie and Andrew overcome the natural disasters and how they each respond to them? Will their immediate attraction for one another grow and forge them as a strong union? Or will they be defeated as well? Book 3: Matters of Desperation This is a story of Genevieve and Jack, both of whom are desperate to quickly change their circumstances. Genevieve is desperate to leave Baltimore or risk facing going to jail or possibly death. She was wrongly accused of killing a man who attempted to pose as her fiance returning from war. Duped and all alone, she feels helpless in her situation. She had already suffered much loss in her young life, and this latest incident only adds to her misery and desperation. Jack is desperate to find a bride who can also be a mother to his 3 year old daughter. Jack's wife recently died of small pox, leaving him in the care of his 3 year old daughter. He is ill prepared to manage his daughter and serve as the local sheriff in a town in Missouri. He needs a wife to immediately step in as a mother for his daughter, but he also desperately wants to head west for a new life. Their lives are forever joined when Miss Helen works her magic once again to bring these two desperate souls together. Genevieve questions if she is the right person.

An average read for me. The pacing was a bit slow and I found myself skimming a few pages. It wasn't terrible, just okay. Probably won't read it again, but it was an okay way to pass the time.

Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. A solid 5/5 for me.

Took me a few chapters to get into it, but it was worth it. Interesting premise and executed fairly well. Just a few slow chapters here and there. I'd probably recommend it to a friend.

Not bad, but not my favorite. The writing was fine, but I didn't feel very connected to the characters. They felt a bit flat. Might work better for someone else, just wasn't completely for me.
