Overview: Dans l'islam, il est permis à un homme qui part en voyage de contracter un mariage à durée déterminée pour ne pas être tenté de fréquenter les prostituées. On le nomme "mariage de plaisir". C’est dans ces conditions qu’Amir, un commerçant prospère de Fès, épouse temporairement Nabou, une Peule de Dakar, où il vient s’approvisionner chaque année en marchandises. Mais voilà qu’Amir se découvre amoureux de Nabou et lui propose de la ramener à Fès avec lui. Nabou accepte, devient sa seconde épouse et donne bientôt naissance à des jumeaux. L’un blanc, l’autre noir. Elle doit affronter dès lors la terrible jalousie de la première épouse blanche et le racisme quotidien. Quelques décennies après, les jumeaux, devenus adultes, ont suivi des chemins très différents. Le Blanc est parfaitement intégré. Such a great read. I got really invested in the main character's journey. Everything just clicked for me. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.

I liked it for the most part. I liked the main character, though some of the side plots were just okay. A solid 4 stars from me.

An average read for me. The writing was fine, but I didn't feel very connected to the characters. They felt a bit flat. Probably won't read it again, but it was an okay way to pass the time.
