Overview: Terdapat dua tujuan utama pendidikan menurut Imam Abu Hanifah. Pertama, untuk memperoleh ilmu dan kefahaman; dan kedua, untuk mempertingkatkan kualiti amalan seseorang. Kedua-dua tujuan ini difahami berdasarkan kias, jawapan dan petikan kenyataan Imam Abu Hanifah daripada kitab al-'Alim wa al-Muta'allim serta disokong oleh karyanya yang lain seperti al-Fiqh al-Akbar dan al-Fiqh al-Absat. Untuk menjamin pencapaian terhadap tujuan yang disasarkan itu, karya ini juga menjelaskan kaedah pengajaran Imam Abu Hanifah secara mendalam - iaitu kaedah soal-jawab dan kaedah kias. Kedua-dua kaedah ini adalah diadaptasi daripada pendekatan ilmu Kalam. Kaedah ini mendapat pengiktirafan murid-muridnya dan juga sarjana terkemudian, seterusnya membuktikan keberkesanannya dalam pengajaran.Karya ini turut menampilkan suntingan ilmiah yang berwibawa terhadap teks kitab al-'Alim wa al-Muta'allim. Suntingan ilmiah ini bersumberkan 14 naskhah manuskrip yang tersimpan di Pusat Manuskrip Suleymaniyyah Kutuphansi, Istanbul; Dar al-Kutub al-Misriyyah, Kaherah; dan R. Univ. Bibliotheek, Leiden berserta terbitan-terbitan bahasa Arab sedia ada. Karya ini turut mengandungi terjemahan Melayu pertama kitab al-'Alim wa al-Muta'allim.
