Overview: Con apenas algo más de un centenar de poemas y pese a su prematura desaparición, José Asunción Silva (1865-1896) ocupa un lugar de honor en las letras hispanoamericanas, y su figura se yergue, al lado de Rubén Darío, como precursora y a la vez iniciadora de ese gran movimiento renovador que fue el modernismo en nuestro continente. La obra de Silva -a quien le tocó en suerte vivir parte de su corta existencia en la Bogotá del siglo XIX- es. entre otras cosas una rebelión contra todo aquello que obstruía el desarrollo de una personalidad independiente y creativa, hastiada de convencionalismos sociales y literarios, lo que explica el carácter contradictorio y pesimista de su poesía.La selección y el prólogo que se ofrecen al lector en esta edición fueron elaborados por el crítico y escritor colombiano Eduardo Camacho Guizado, autor de varios ensayos sobre silva y profundo conocedor de su obra. Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. I got really invested in the main character's journey. Everything just clicked for me. Glad I picked this up.

Good, but not quite perfect. The middle dragged a tiny bit, but the ending totally made up for it. Enjoyable weekend read.

I was pleasantly surprised. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. A solid 5/5 for me.

Pretty good overall. I liked the main character, though some of the side plots were just okay. I'd probably recommend it to a friend.
