Overview: De nouveaux chantiers s’ouvrent aujourd’hui pour une histoire revisitée des rapports entre femmes et catholicisme avec la perspective du genre. Dans le cadre d’une journée d’études, il n’était pas possible de baliser tous les chemins à emprunter. Quatre seulement ont été retenus : le politique, la spiritualité, le genre et le féminisme. Un cinquième a été joint dans cette publication avec un point de vue décentré sur la « mission au féminin », celui d’une historienne américaine et d’une historienne chilienne. Cet ouvrage a donc pour but de croiser les approches historiographiques, en faisant appel à des spécialistes d’horizons différents, venus de l’histoire religieuse, de l’histoire sociale, de l’histoire des femmes et du genre mais également d’autres disciplines comme la sociologie. Il est aussi le fruit d’une collaboration étroite entre deux équipes de recherches au sein du LARHRA : « Genre et Sociétés » (Pascale Barthélémy) et « Pouvoirs, Villes et Sociétés » (Bruno Dumons). L’histoire du catholicisme est devenu à ce jour un objet d’études à part entière, délesté de l’histoire de l’Église de tradition apologétique, qui peut désormais s’approprier les nouvelles recherches menées sur les femmes et le genre. En retenant quelques-unes d’entre elles à partir de l’exemple français, cette publication constitue aussi un appel à confronter la réflexion avec d’autres historiographies nationales mais aussi bien au-delà de celles qui caractérisent l’espace européen.

I was pleasantly surprised. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. Would probably read it again at some point.

It was okay. The pacing was a bit slow and I found myself skimming a few pages. It wasn't terrible, just okay. Probably won't read it again, but it was an okay way to pass the time.

Really enjoyed this one. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. Will be looking for more from this author.
