Overview: Àngel Guimerà (1845-1924) és una de les figures decisives del tombant de segle pel seu pes indiscutible dintre de la vida política del Principatm però sobretot per la importància i renom que assolí en l'àmbit teatral, en què esdevingué l'únic dramaturg català del segle XIX de nivell europeu. Primerament fou, amb Verdaguer, el poeta més popular de Catalunya; posteriorment, a trenta-quatre anys, s'incorpora al teatre, on assolí èxits ressonants. Situat dins el corrent romàntic, sabé infondre a les seves obres una força extraordinària, centrada en una llengua de gran eficàcia i en unes figures que arriben a esdevenir arquetipus. Les obres que presentem són les més significatives de Guimerà. "Mar i cel" (1888) és el darrer dels seus drames en vers i teatralment l'obra més ben tallada, segons Josep M. de Sagarra, i és, també, la que inicia la seva projecció internacional. "Terra baixa" (1897) assenyala el cim de la seva puixança creadora i, de fet, ha esdevingut la més popular. I "La filla del mar" (1900) tanca el període de màxima plenitud de l'autor.

Such a great read. It has a good balance of dialogue and description. Everything felt like it moved at the right speed. Would probably read it again at some point.

Glad someone recommended this to me. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. A solid 5/5 for me.

Finished it in a couple of days. I loved how the story unfolded. It kept me guessing without being too confusing. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.

Pretty good overall. Interesting premise and executed fairly well. Just a few slow chapters here and there. Still a good book.
