Die Pandemie brach nach heutigem Wissensstand zuerst in Asien aus und gelangte uber die Handelsrouten nach Europa. Dort wurden manche Landstriche weitgehend entvolkert, wahrend andere Regionen von der Seuche verschont oder nur gering betroffen waren. In Florenz uberlebte nur einer von jeweils funf Burgern die Krankheit. Fur das Gebiet des heutigen Deutschlands wird dagegen geschatzt, dass jeder zehnte Einwohner in Folge des Schwarzen Todes sein Leben verlor. Hamburg, Koln und Bremen zahlten dabei zu den Stadten, in denen ein sehr hoher Bevolkerungsanteil starb. Sehr viel geringer war dagegen die Anzahl der Todesopfer in Ostdeutschland. Die sozialen Auswirkungen des Schwarzen Todes reichten sehr weit: Juden gerieten sehr schnell in den Verdacht, durch Giftmischerei und Brunnenvergiftung die Epidemie ausgelost zu haben. Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. It has a good balance of dialogue and description. Everything felt like it moved at the right speed. Glad I picked this up.
