Overview: Spiegelblicke erscheint 30 Jahre nach dem allerersten organisierten Treffen in Deutschland und damit drei Jahrzehnte nach der Gründung der Initiative Schwarze Menschen in Deutschland. Essays, Portraits, analytische Texte, Storytelling und Foto-Reportagen: Die beteiligten Autor*innen, Zeitzeug*innen und Porträtierten sind in unterschiedlichen Zusammenhängen mit der Schwarzen Bewegung verbunden. Es sind unterschiedliche Generationen, deren Blicke sich im Band (wider-)spiegeln und Bilder einer vielfältigen Schwarzen Bewegung in Deutschland zeichnen. Sie, analysieren rassistische Strukturen in privaten und öffentlichen Räumen, dokumentieren Stationen Schwarzer Identitätsfindung und des Empowerments und machen die Verschränkung verschiedener sozialer Ausschlussmechanismen sichtbar. Inhaltlich geht es um Schwarze Menschen in der NS-Zeit, die Geschichte des Kolonialismus, seine Reichweite in die Gegenwart - beispielsweise im Bildungs- und Rechtssystem und um selbstbestärkende Interventionen von Eltern, Lehrenden, Kulturschaffenden oder Medienmacher*innen und alltägliche Geschichten Schwarzer Menschen in Deutschland. Verhandelt werden Themen wie Racial Profiling, die Rolle der Menschenrechte und Refugee Activism. Mit der Frage was es heißt, Schwarz und Queer zu sein, werden intersektionale Perspektiven eröffnet. Damit haben sich die Herausgeberinnen an die herausfordernde Aufgabe gewagt, einen Band zu gestalten, der die Entwicklungs-, Auseinandersetzungs- und Definitionsprozesse der Bewegung aufzeigt. Mit dem Ziel: ein leicht zugängliches und bleibendes Werk für die Zukunft zu schaffen, das ein breites Publikum anspricht.

It was okay. The pacing was a bit slow and I found myself skimming a few pages. It wasn't terrible, just okay. It's fine if you have nothing else to read.

Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. The writing style is very engaging. It’s easy to follow but still has a lot of depth. Will be looking for more from this author.
