It includes chapters devoted to the ancient philosophers who opposed Christianity along with information about the female philosophers of the ancient world as well as chapters devoted to the emperors Hadrian and Julian, demonstrating their roles in the overall picture. The brutal takeover by Christian Byzantine forces is fully on display in this work along with mentions of several who faced their wrath, often via some rather fiendish subordinate characters. In the mix it emphasizes the deaths of Julian, Hypatia, the very city of Roma and the ancient Greco-Roman civilization altogether, deriving meaning therefrom. I liked it for the most part. Writing is good, just wish there was a bit more depth in certain parts. Still kept my attention though. I'd probably recommend it to a friend.

Such a great read. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. A solid 5/5 for me.

I have mixed feelings about this one. The pacing was a bit slow and I found myself skimming a few pages. It wasn't terrible, just okay. Probably won't read it again, but it was an okay way to pass the time.
