Overview: Prior to the Troubles many women from Northern Ireland came from traditional, conservative and religious backgrounds where their role was seen to be that of wife and mother.Before divisions disrupted lives, women generally left school at 14 or 15 and went to work in the factories or mills. Between the ages of 18-22 they got married and often kept working to supplement the family income. Women thrived on the stable triangle of work, home and church.Women have become a growing force in Northern Ireland over the last 40 years - they were the glue that helped keep society together during the Troubles. Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. A solid 5/5 for me.

I have mixed feelings about this one. The writing was fine, but I didn't feel very connected to the characters. They felt a bit flat. A generous 3 stars.
