Overview: Stilul național românesc este creat în ultimele două decenii ale secolului al XIX-lea, prima clădire ridicată în acest stil datând din 1886. În această perioadă, arhitecții stabilesc care sunt sursele de inspirație potrivite pentru crearea unui stil național românesc și le găsesc în arhitectura medievală a Țării Românești și a Moldovei și în arhitectura vernaculară muntenească. După Expoziția Generală din anul 1906, acest stil cunoaște un succes pe scară largă, fiind preferat atât de autorități pentru construirea de edificii publice, cât și de comanditari privați. Adaptându-se la exigențele pe care le impun programele de arhitectură publică, stilul se monumentalizează și sunt preferate aluziile istoriste în detrimentul celor la arhitectura vernaculară. În perioada interbelică stilul se oficializează, devenind marcă a României Mari și se confruntă cu punerea sa în discuție atât din punct de vedere estetic, ca urmare a concurenței modernismului, cât și din punct de vedere ideologic, în sensul chestionării capacității sale de a reflecta „sufletul românesc”.

Finished it in a couple of days. The writing style is very engaging. It’s easy to follow but still has a lot of depth. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.

It was just alright. The pacing was a bit slow and I found myself skimming a few pages. It wasn't terrible, just okay. It's fine if you have nothing else to read.

Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. I got really invested in the main character's journey. Everything just clicked for me. Would probably read it again at some point.
