Overview: Rimasto isolato per più di due secoli, nel 1854 il Giappone iniziò a instaurare rapporti diplomatici e commerciali con gli Stati Uniti, la Russia, l’Inghilterra e la Francia, oltre ai Paesi Bassi che già in precedenza avevano avuto possibilità di scambi privilegiati. Dopo l’Esposizione universale di Parigi del 1867 la passione per l’arte giapponese, il cosiddetto Japonisme, travolse molti artisti divenendo una vera e propria moda culturale. Il periodo di maggior diffusione di questa tendenza coincise appieno con le varie declinazioni del Liberty.Nella Francia fin de siècle l’influsso dell’arte giapponese, sia a livello formale sia contenutistico, coinvolse i più svariati settori artistici, dalla pittura alla grafica, dalla ceramica all’architettura lasciando il segno in artisti come Édouard Manet, Claude Monet, Edgar Degas e Vincent van Gogh. Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. Will be looking for more from this author.
