Overview: From White Rose Maths schemes for Year 4(Ages 8 to 9) Autumn Term BLOCK 1 – PLACE VALUE. The activities are designed to meet the aims of the national curriculum for - become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics, including through varied and frequent practice with increasingly complex problems over time, so that pupils develop conceptual understanding and the ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately.- reason mathematically by following a line of enquiry, conjecturing relationships and generalisations, and developing an argument, justification or proof using mathematical language- can solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of routine and non-routine problems with increasing sophistication, including breaking down problems into a series of simpler steps and persevering in seeking solutions.Curriculum link for Year 4(Ages 8 to 9):- count in multiples of 6, 7, 9, 25 and 1000- find 1000 more or less than a given number- count backwards through zero to include negative numbers- recognise the place value of each digit in a four-digit number (thousands, hundreds, tens, and ones)- order and compare numbers beyond 1000- identify, represent and estimate numbers using different representations- round any number to the nearest 10, 100 or 1000- solve number and practical problems that involve all of the above and with increasingly large positive numbers- read Roman numerals to 100 (I to C) and know that over time, the numeral system changed to include the concept of zero and place value.

An average read for me. It had some good moments, but the overall plot felt a bit disjointed in the second half. Probably won't read it again, but it was an okay way to pass the time.

Such a great read. The writing style is very engaging. It’s easy to follow but still has a lot of depth. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.
