Overview: Fotograafi ja reisiajakirjaniku Silvia Pärmanni esimene reisikirjade kogumik viib meeleolukale reisile läbi vabariikide, mis on vabad ja riigid vaid nime poolest. Nende hulgas on nii Eestiga kunagi ühte saatust jaganud Abhaasia, Mägi-Karabahh ja Tšetšeenia kui ka palju eksootilisemalt kõlavad Kalmõkkia, Somaalimaa ja Lääne-Sahara ning puhkuserõõme tõotav Põhja-Küpros.Huvi tunnustamata riikide, riigita rahvaste ja ebamäärase staatusega kohtade vastu tekkis Silvia Pärmannil 2012. aasta suvel Kosovos, mis oli ennast neli aastat varem iseseisvaks kuulutanud Serbiast. Serblasi see kõik muidugi ei vaimustanud - nad olid Kosovo territooriumit kontrollinud 12. sajandist alates. Tekkis küsimus, et kust tuli neil see julgus ja veendumus, et oma riigi rajamine õnnestub. Aga samas viis see reis mõtted suhteliselt hiljutise Eesti iseseisvumise juurde ja küsimuseni, et milline oleks meie maailm olnud siis, kui oma iseseisvusele tunnustuse saamine oleks kujunenud sama raskeks.Teekond nendele küsimusele vastust otsides viis Silvia Pärmanni nii paikadesse, mis eemalt vaadates tundusid väga selge ja tugeva identiteediga, nii nemad ise, et nende iseseisvumispüüete puudumine tekitas lihtsalt hämmingut, kui ka kohtadesse, kus piiril seisvast sildist „vabariik” mitte mingisugust sisulist tähtsust polnud. Viis ka kohtadesse, kus iseseisvuse väljakuulutamine oli kohalike meelest kõikidest halbadest variantidest lihtsalt kõige vähem halb – ja viis kohtadesse, mis käitusid rohkem demokraatliku riigina kui paljud täiesti tunnustatud riigid.Viis nii paikadesse kus rahvusspordiks oli naiserööv või majanduse tugisambaks kaamel kui ka uhiuutesse veinihotellidesse ministritega klaase kõlistama ning eksootilisi ravimuda protseduure kogema.See ei olnud niisiis kaugeltki mitte kurb teekond täis varemeid ja okastraati, otse vastupidi. I have mixed feelings about this one. The writing was fine, but I didn't feel very connected to the characters. They felt a bit flat. Might work better for someone else, just wasn't completely for me.
