Overview: Gretina zgodba se dogaja v letih 1634 in 1635 v kraju Lichtenwald na Spodnjem Štajerskem. V tem turbulentnem času se v Evropi bijejo bitke med katoliki in protestanti v tridesetletni vojni, podložniki se s kmečkimi upori počasi osvobajajo tlačanstva, mesta se širijo, preganjanje čarovnic pa je še v polnem razmahu. Lichtenwald je živahen trg, ki ga pred zunanjimi nevarnostmi varujeta budno oko pravovernega vaškega župnika očeta Jožefa ter prizanesljivost in strpnost zemljiškega gospoda barona Inocenca Moscona.Tukaj živi Greta Weber, ženska z izjemno notranjo močjo, s katero premaguje hude življenjske preizkušnje. V sebi že od otroštva nosi nevarne skrivnosti, grehe svojih staršev, ki so zanjo hkrati tudi blagoslov, saj ji pomagajo razumeti svet okoli nje.Potem ko poskuša spet zaživeti po smrti svojega sina, nekega poletnega dne sreča viteza Johanna Savinška, ki je z ženo baronico Herberstein gost v Mosconovem gradu. Med Greto in Johannom vzplamti strast, ki je zanjo tako vseobsegajoča, da jo popolnoma prevzame. Ob koncu leta se Johann poslovi z obljubo, da se naslednje poletje vrne.V tem času Greta postane vajenka pri vaški porodničarki, spremlja sestro v samostan, iz bede reši mlado dekle, spozna zanimivo žensko, ki se nenavadno oblači, z očetom skriva prepovedane knjige, pomaga pri pogostitvi kmečkih upornikov in se pusti prepričati v zaroko z moškim, ki ga ne ljubi. It was okay. It felt a bit repetitive in the middle. Could have been shorter. Probably won't read it again, but it was an okay way to pass the time.
