Overview: This collection contains books 52-54 in the popular cat sleuth series The Mysteries of Max. Enjoy this intrepid feline detective's adventures at a purrfectly handsome discount.Purrfect Model (Max 52)Anyone Can PaintWhen Jay met Laia, it was love at first sight. But when Laia’s parents met Jay, disaster struck. To such an extent they forced her to choose between her family and her fiancé. Laia chose her fiancé, and that’s when the trouble started. The young couple soon became the victims of a harassment campaign, which led them to Odelia, who promised she would find the vicious stalker intent on their destruction. And then of course there was the whole art class fiasco. I’d tell you more, but sometimes it’s best to find out for oneself. Also, I still haven’t fully recovered. Let’s just say that a sudden wave of artistic fervor swept across our family, affecting first Marge and Harriet, then Gran, then Tex, and finally even Grace, the most recent addition to the family roster. Suffice it to say, things soon turned ugly. Very ugly.Purrfect Slug (Max 53)A Regular SlugfestWhen a slug and snail infestation overtook our backyard, it was all our humans could do to get rid of the slimy creatures. And that was even before billionaire Edward Dexter entered our lives. Ed’s daughter had gone missing, and so he turned to Odelia to find her. Only that’s not how the rest of the family saw it. They thought Odelia was having an affair with the handsome billionaire, and so the trouble began. In the meantime Harriet was trying to train neighboring dogs Fifi and Rufus for their upcoming dog show. They both wanted to become Best in Show, and Harriet promised she could take them all the way to the top. Too late did she remember the old saying ‘Never work with children or animals.’ Suffice it to say things didn’t go smoothly.Purrfect Match (Max 54)Cats à la ModeWhen you’ve lived with humans for as long as I have, you learn to take the bad with the good. The good being a nice home, decent grub and a daily ration of cuddles (though never enough, of course—never enough). So what’s the bad? Having to accompany your humans when they go on a matchmaking mission to try and bring together two sundered hearts. Gran and Scarlett had decided to take their Dear Gabi agony column on the road, and go undercover where their Dear Readers were, to try and fix what was broken—and even some of the things that weren’t.And so Dooley and I found ourselves at Advantage Publishing, publisher of magazines like Glimmer, Vigor, Fish & Tackle, and of course Cat Life. Gran and Scarlett as senior interns, and Dooley and I as their emotional support animals. The people who’d written to Dear Gabi were Natalie Ferrara, who was expecting her boss’s baby, and had recently been unceremoniously dumped by the man, and Tom Mitchell, who was in love with a colleague, but found his affections not reciprocated. Office romance, in other words. Not exactly my strong suit! Lucky for us, before long a murder was committed, and even as ‘Gabi’ continued to work her magic, I found myself shifting into detective mode. And then of course there were some odds and ends, like Tex accidentally redistributing his old love letters to Marge around the neighborhood, causing her no small measure of embarrassment.

Took me a few chapters to get into it, but it was worth it. Writing is good, just wish there was a bit more depth in certain parts. Still kept my attention though. I'd probably recommend it to a friend.

I was pleasantly surprised. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. Would probably read it again at some point.

I have mixed feelings about this one. It had some good moments, but the overall plot felt a bit disjointed in the second half. A generous 3 stars.

Took me a few chapters to get into it, but it was worth it. Interesting premise and executed fairly well. Just a few slow chapters here and there. Enjoyable weekend read.

I have mixed feelings about this one. The pacing was a bit slow and I found myself skimming a few pages. It wasn't terrible, just okay. Might work better for someone else, just wasn't completely for me.
