Overview: Por idéntico argumento por el que el siglo XVIII mereció el calificativo de Siglo de las Luces, el XXI parece estar ganándose a pulso el de El Gran Apagón. Si lo característico del primero era su decidido empeño por examinar la totalidad de lo real a la luz de la razón, se podría afirmar que lo más propio del tiempo que nos está tocando vivir es, precisamente, el oscurecimiento de dicha luz, la sostenida tozudez con la que parece estar renunciándose al empleo de la misma como herramienta para esclarecer los más diversos ámbitos, tanto personales como colectivos, de nuestras vidas. El presente ensayo afronta la compleja y necesaria tarea de analizar la calidad democrática en la que vivimos, tratando de establecer cómo hemos llegado a la situación actual de polarización extrema, en la que el intercambio de opiniones razonadas ha perdido espacio y cobertura frente a una sociedad del espectáculo donde prima la ruidosa confrontación de puntos de vista irreconciliables. Para ello, el filósofo y político Manuel Cruz establece las causas de este déficit de racionalidad, reflexiona acerca de sus efectos y reconstruye el debate de las ideas, porque regenerar el diálogo y la controversia crítica es un primer paso imprescindible para hacer habitable la esfera pública, el ámbito en el que se forman las opiniones y las voluntades. A este respecto, la propuesta del texto no puede ser más clara y rotunda: ante el eclipse de la razón al que estamos asistiendo, inmersos como nos encontramos en una deriva de incertidumbre global, se torna necesario hallar instrumentos de pensamiento que nos sean útiles para formarnos una opinión crítica y matizada que nos permita tomar las decisiones con las que, entre todos, construimos el espacio compartido.

I liked it for the most part. Interesting premise and executed fairly well. Just a few slow chapters here and there. A solid 4 stars from me.

I was pleasantly surprised. The writing style is very engaging. It’s easy to follow but still has a lot of depth. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.

Took me a few chapters to get into it, but it was worth it. I liked the main character, though some of the side plots were just okay. I'd probably recommend it to a friend.

A very satisfying read. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. Would probably read it again at some point.
